Please review the following document for details on rules and guidelines to be applied for your U10 through U18 intramural games. This document contains details on game times, referee fees and additional information related to modified rules that will be applied by referees during 2016 intramural games.
Please note these rule modifications and rule explanations for intramural games:
Sports safety glasses is strongly reccomended. This is for both the safety of the individual and others on the field.
Players are not permitted to play wearing unpadded casts or splints. The decision to allow the player to participate will be made by the referee.
Slide tackling – Not allowed –Slide Tackling in any manner shall be strictly prohibited and shall be sanctioned as “Serious Foul Play” and shall be issued a “Red Card” for the foul. If a defender commits a slide tackle foul in their penalty box, award a penalty kick to the opposing team.
Rushing the Goal Keeper - An “Indirect Direct Free Kick” shall be awarded to the opposing team if a player rushes a Goal Keeper.
No such thing as a "Handball" in FIFA Laws of the Game explanation - Here are the rules of soccer related to handling that will result in a direct kick foul. Feel free to search the FIFA Laws of the Game to verify this statement.
Handles the ball deliberately (except for the keeper in their own penalty area)
Handling the ball involves a deliberate act of a player making contact with the ball with his hand or arm. The referee must take the following into consideration:
• the movement of the hand towards the ball (not the ball towards the hand)
• the distance between the opponent and the ball (unexpected ball) - unexpected, unintential contact of the ball to players hand is not considered a handling foul
• the position of the hand does not necessarily mean that there is an infringement
• touching the ball with an object held in the hand (clothing, shinguard, etc.) counts as an infringement
• hitting the ball with a thrown object (boot, shinguard, etc.) counts as an infringement
Only the opinion of the referee will matter in the above decision of calling a handling foul. Please refrain from yelling "handball" throughout a game or allowing sideline spectators to do the same behavior as that detracts from the sport of the game for all players.
New for 2016 U.S. Soccer Concussion Initiative – For U10 and younger players heading the ball is prohibited. If a player deliberately heads the ball in a game, an indirect free kick should be award to the opposing team from the spot of the offense. If the deliberate header occurs within the goal area, the indirect free kick will take place on the goal area line parallel to the goal line at a point nearest to where the infringement occurred.
