Philosophy
Coaches are the most important representatives of our program with each child's and parent's experience with Horsham Soccer being mostly dependent on that child's coach. With this in mind we have developed clear objectives and an overiding club philosphy that each coach should follow
Founding Principles of Horsham Soccer
Horsham Soccer was founded on three fundamental principles:
- Learning and playing should be fun.
- Team success is secondary to individual player development.
- Every player, regardless of his/her skill level, should be provided an environment conducive to his/her skill level.
Objective of the Intramural Program
Objective of the Travel Program
Present to other clubs the highest quality soccer and sportsmanship possible.
Coaches
The coach is the organization's primary representative whose principal
role is as a teacher with the primary goal to provide a positive learning
experience for each child.Coaches are encouraged to:
- Measure success on the ability to develop individual players to the best of their ability rather than on wins and losses
- Expand and refine his/her soccer knowledge on an ongoing basis
- Pursue state or national licensing through EPYSA/USYSA
- Recognize that each child is an individual and to inter-act with each child on a one to one basis
- Educate team parents that coaching from the sideline is counterproductive to the education and training of a soccer player
- Educate players and parents in the proper behavior afforded teammates, opposing players, and referees, and make it clear that abuse of teammates, opposing players, and referees will not be tolerated
- Act in a professional manner
EPYSA/USYSA Education and Licensing
EPYSA/USYSA offers courses leading to state and national licensing.
Click Here for an overview of the courses and state and national licensing levels. These courses are very professionally done and are highly recommended by the club both to teach coaches how to coach, but also how to teach and relate to large groups of young children. Horsham often sponsors these courses for coaches from HSA and other clubs.HSA will reimburse the fee for Youth Module, E and D License courses, and Level 8 Referee courses for members of the organization who plan to coach and/or referee with HSA. These courses may be Horsham sponsored courses or courses held by EPYSA at other clubs. You must get pre-approval (see contacts above) for reimbursement for courses not taken at Horsham.HSA recommends that all intramural coaches in age groups U6-U10 participate in EPYSA's Youth Module course.HSA recommends that all intramural coaches in age groups U6-U10 participate in EPYSA's Youth Module course. We also recommend that all intramural coaches in age groups U12 and above earn a minimum of an EPYSA state E License. We also strongly recommend, and may make it a prerequisite, that all travel coaches have earned at least an EPYSA state E License.
